Glen R. Hansen, 92
YARMOUTH - Glen R. Hansen, 92, passed away in his home on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017.
Born in Cumberland on Dec. 19, 1924, Glen was the son of the late Arthur and Josephine (Schouboe) Hansen.
He lived a full life focusing on his education, family, and helping others. Following graduation from Greely High School, Glen honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as first lieutenant to the 36th Bombardment Squadron.
After returning home to Maine, he attended Bates College and Tufts Dental School, eventually opening his own practice where he spent his career focused on patient care.
While attending Bates, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth May. Glen and Betty were married on June 18, 1949, in Auburn. Together they raised their family in Portland, Scarborough and eventually retiring in Falmouth.
Glen's biggest passion was golf. He was a long-time member of the Portland Country Club, where he thoroughly enjoyed spending his time with his family and friends. Glen had a very active lifestyle and blessed his children with many fond memories of water skiing on Little Sebago Lake and downhill skiing on Pleasant Mountain.
As a devoted father, he spent time hunting and fishing with his sons and taking his daughters to horse shows and practices.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
Glen was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth (May) Hansen; as well as his sister, Ariel Palmer; his brother, Arthur Hansen; and his grandson, Mark Hansen.
He is survived by three sons, Stephen Hansen and wife Sandy, of Windham; Jim Hansen, of Kingfield, and John Hansen, of Eugene, Ore.; three daughters, Sally Hansen, of Napa, Calif.; Margaret Churchill and husband Clayton, of Ramona, Calif,; and Elizabeth "BJ" Weeks and husband Timothy, of Falmouth; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at Holy Martyrs Church, 266 Foreside Rd., Falmouth. Interment with military honors will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Falmouth. A gathering will take place after the burial for family and friends at the parish hall of Holy Martyrs for refreshments.
