Stella Katherine Walsh, 70
YARMOUTH - Stella Katherine Walsh, 70, of Yarmouth, passed away July 29, 2017, due to complications from cancer; but she lived an incredible life.
Those who knew her will remember her many years of dedication to those who need-ed help through the Maine Department of Human Services.
Others will know of her countless hours of volunteer work with Merrymeeting Audubon, Maine Audubon Center at Gilsland Farm, Audubon Project Puffin, and Biodiversity Research Institute, among others.
Stella was a naturalist, a birder, conservationist, and hands-on volunteer and mentor to many. She could cook an amazing meal with one pot and few ingredients, and make wonderful pies and cookies. Stella was a gifted gardener, a cat lover (indoor only, please), opera lover, and pianist, as well as a skilled basket maker, rug hooker, knitter, and beader.
She was no-nonsense, down-to-earth, intelligent, big-hearted, generous, a great friend, funny, and you pretty much knew what she was thinking because she would tell you. We, her friends and family, will miss her presence in our lives, but she will surely not be long as there are birds around.
There will be a gathering to remember Stella Walsh at Maine Audubon Gilsland Farm in Falmouth, on Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, from 4-6 p.m. Patrick Keenan, program director of the River Point Bird Banding Program, will be a speaker, and there will be the opportunity for others to share memories of Stella as well.

For those wanting to make donations in Stella's name, here are just a few of the organizations for which Stella did volunteer work: Merrymeeting Chapter of Maine Audubon, Gilsland Farm Audubon Center, Audubon Project Puffin, and Biodiversity Research Institute.
