SCARBOROUGH - Joe Bromley passed away on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, after a brief illness, at The Gosnell Hospice House, surrounded by his family.

Joe was born in Portland on Jan. 2, 1939, to Francis H. Bromley Sr. and Harriette (Willard) Bromley.

During his childhood, he and his family promoted safety of firearms and exhibitions of trick shooting. He has special memories of Broadview Park.

On Aug. 8, 1964, he married Judith Rand. They had 52 wonderful years of marriage and 27 trips to Aruba together.

Over the years he worked for Travelers Insurance Co., Maine Bonding & Casualty, and Garrett-Callahan, before retiring from Bath Iron Works in 2005.

Joe was a member of Cape Elizabeth Jaycees and Scarborough Lions Club. He taught boiler operation and defensive driving classes. In 1981, he began officiating track and field at the high school, college and corporate levels. This brought many friends and good times over the years.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Miriam Nappi.

Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith (Rand) Bromley; daughters Ellen (Chris) Pallotta, and Kathy (Tim) O'Brien; grandchildren, Samantha (Dana) Larrabee, Ryan Pallotta (Chelsey Michaud), and Caroline and Peter O'Brien; great-grandchildren, Sadie and Cole Larrabee; sister, Anita Pendexter; brother-in-law, J. Chase Rand and wife Judy; and several nieces and nephews.

At Joe's request, his body was donated to The Anatomical Donor Program at The University of New England.

There will be a Celebration of Life at The First Congregational Church, 167 Black Point Rd. in Scarborough, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016. Rev. Fred Gagnon will officiate. Reception will follow at 6 Woodside Drive in Scarborough.
