Grainger, IV, age 83
BATH -- William H. Grainger, IV, 83, died unexpectedly Thursday October 16, 2014 at his home.
He was born in Bath on December 30, 1930 a son of John G. and Sarah Davis Grainger. He was educated in the local schools, graduating from Morse High School and from Bowdoin College with a degree in Physics.
Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He lived in Waltham, Mass. for a number of years and worked as an Electrical Engineer serving the Boston area hospitals. He returned to Bath to be closer to family and continued to service hospitals, covering the entire state of Maine.
Bill was an avid automotive enthusiast and could discuss at great length their differences. He had a vast thirst for knowledge and could recall at great length any subject. He enjoyed taking walks, both vegetable and flower gardening, and was considered a novice arborist. What Bill loved most was time spent with family and always took time to spend with his nieces and nephews.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, where he was active in the lending library.
Bill is predeceased by his parents; five sisters, Mary Vedalis, Katherine Grainger, Ruth Grainger, Claire Lozier, and Frances Lavoie; and two nephews, Paul Vedalis and Brandan Grainger.
Surviving are a sister, Sr. Consuelo Eleanor) Grainger; a brother, Robert Grainger and his wife, Therese of Phippsburg; five nieces, Ruth Vedalis Chandler, Elaine Dudevoir, Carol Coverdale, Maureen Grainger and Kathryn Grainger; five nephews, Mark Lozier, John Lozier, David Lozier, Matthew Grainger and Andrew Grainger; and many grand and great-grandnieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, Oct. 20th at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Parish, St. Mary's Church, 144 Lincoln St., Bath. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Bath.
