Rev. Warren L. Hedrick, 90
YARMOUTH - The Rev. Warren L. Hedrick, 90, of Yarmouth, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Yarmouth Rehabilitation after a long illness. He was born in Middletown, Conn., the son of Leo and Winifred Hedrick. He attended schools in East Hartford, graduating from East Hartford High School.
Warren immediately entered the military service where he served as a member of the 8th Air Force, 303rd Bombardment Group (Triangle C), which was known as the "Hell's Angels," serving as a tail gunner in a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber, successfully flying 35 missions in the European theater and earning several medals of honor.
After the war, he married the love of his life, Alma Ann Lang on Nov. 23, 1946. They were married 68 years until his passing.
Warren was a successful businessman, owner/operator of several "Esso" service stations in the 1950s, and in the early 1960s he enrolled at Bangor Theological Seminary in Bangor where he graduated as president of his class. He later earned a Masters of Divinity degree from University of Connecticut and was ordained as a Congregational minister. He enjoyed a long career serving churches in Maine, Connecticut, Florida and New Hampshire before in retired in 1990.
Warren loved to fish and was a huge UConn men's and women's basketball fan, and was an avid Yankees fan. He also enjoyed RVing with his wife Alma traveling during their retirement years.
He was predeceased by his brother Robert Hedrick. Besides his loving wife of Yarmouth; he leaves his daughter, Linda and her husband Everett Johnson of Cape Elizabeth, sons, Richard and wife Linda Hedrick of Warner, N.H., Thomas and his wife Bonnie Hedrick of Harwinton, Conn.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services with military honors will be private for Warren's family at the family lot in Lakeview Cemetery, East Hampton, Conn. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland.
