Susan Joan Bauer, 67
Sept. 13, 1946 - Nov. 23, 2013
PORTLAND -- Susan Bauer, 67, died on Saturday at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She will be most remembered for her grace, compassion, kind heart and spirit.
Susan was born and raised in Lakewood, Colo., by her parents, Newton and Gladys Pritchard. She was the middle child between siblings Michael and Sharon.
After graduating from Colorado State University, Susan's adventurous spirit drove her east to New York University in New York City where she received a Masters of Arts in Fashion Merchandising.
After moving back to Colorado, she met and married John Victor Bauer in an intimate ceremony in Evergreen, Colo., in 1971.
Susan made friends easily and maintained lifelong friendships with many from Colorado to Texas to England to Maine. She walked on the beach near her home almost everyday and was an active member of the Blue Point Congregational Church where she focused on mission work benefiting the local community.
She was exceedingly generous with her time and attention to loved ones and strangers alike. She loved playing paper dolls with her granddaughter and dreaming up new redecorating ideas.
After a hard fought battle with cancer over the past four months, she will be greatly missed.
Susan is survived by her husband, John Bauer; her son, Brett Bauer, her daughter and son- in-law, Traci and Mitchell Ayer; and her granddaughter, Kelsey Bauer Ayer.
A memorial service honoring Susan will be held at Blue Point Congregational Church in Scarborough on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. In addition, a service will be held in Evergreen, Colo., at the Church of the Transfiguration on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be expressed at
