Stephen John Morrell, 66
WINDHAM - Stephen John Morrell, 66, died on Jan. 8, 2018. He was born in Portland, on Sept. 10, 1951, the son of Calvin "Abe" and Grace (Greenlaw) Morrell.
Stephen was born and raised on the family farm in Windham, and was an active member in 4-H when he was younger. He was a 1970 graduate of Windham High School, and went on to receive his associate degree in fire science technology from SMVTI, before starting work at S.D. Warren. Over the years, Stephen held a few different positions at the mill. He was able to retire from there at the age of 62, after 41 years of faithful service.
His greatest joy in life was his family, with whom he was very close. He was a huge sports fan and especially loved his Boston teams. Stephen coached youth sports for his children as they were growing up. In his retirement, he loved watching his grandson play sports and you could find him at every game.
Stephen is survived by his children, Kristi Cartwright and husband Brett, Heath Morrell and wife Charlotte, and Kati Morrell; grandson, Tyrie James; brothers, Calvin "Bub" Morrell Jr. and wife Cheryl, Tim Morrell and wife Linda, and Mike Morrell and wife Helen; former wife, Lynn Bucknell; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased by his sister, Kathy Hawkes.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at the Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais and Segee, 434 River Rd., Windham, where a period of visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Smith Cemetery in the spring. To express condolences and to participate in Stephen's online tribute, please visit:
