Stella P. Beaumier, 91
GORHAM - Stella P. Beaumier, 91, formerly of Westbrook, passed away on Sept. 7, 2018 at Gorham House, Gorham, Maine, where she had been a resident for the last 10 years.
Born in Rome, N.Y. on Nov. 30, 1926 to James and Mary Perry, Stella moved to Maine in 1949 when she married Edmond J. Beaumier. While Stella quickly assimilated into Maine life, she remained an unabashed, lifelong New York Yankees fan.
Stella graduated from Rider College, Trenton, N.J. Later, as President of the Parent Teacher Association at St. Mary's School in Westbrook which her children attended, Stella became interested in teaching. She returned to school, while raising her children, and obtained undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of Maine in order to pursue a career in teaching.
Stella's life was dedicated to others, first and always her family, also to many classes of fourth and fifth graders in Westbrook where she was a longtime teacher and, after her retirement from teaching, to the team in the lab and the patients at the Mercy Hospital, Westbrook where she served as a volunteer for the last 30 years, right up until the last month of her life. She always found the time to be there for her family, friends and others who needed her help and they loved her for her wisdom, guidance and sharp wit.
Stella was predeceased by her parents; her husband (in 2004); and siblings, Sam Perry, Frances Zanko, Vicenza Messineo, Jessie Hodkinson, Josephine Rasckhe and their spouses.
She is survived by her children, Carol Beaumier of New York, N.Y., and Falls Church, Va., and James Beaumier of Whitefield, Maine; by her brothers, Joseph Perry of Rohnert Park, Cali., and James Perry of Rome, N.Y. and their spouses; and by many nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Stella's family would like to thank the current and former staff members of the Gorham House who have been her friends and caretakers for the last 10 years and the representatives of the Visiting Nurses Association who also helped care for Stella during her last month.
Stella was laid to rest at St. Hyacinth's Cemetery on Sept. 12, after a private service at Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Home 35 Church St., Westbrook.
