Rosalthe Lothrop Stanhope, 87
PORTLAND - Rosalthe Lothrop Stanhope, of Portland, died Jan. 1, 2018, in Scarborough.
Rosalthe "Rose" Stanhope was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Wilton, Maine, to Dorothy Rosalthe Millett Lothrop and Harry Albert Lothrop. She was a graduate of Wilton Academy in Wilton and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Portland.
On Dec. 30, 1950, she married H. Joseph Stanhope, of Portland. She and Joe made their home in Portland, where they raised four children and worked as health professionals; Rose was a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital for 37 years.
Rose was known to family and friends as an accomplished knitter, avid reader, and devoted wife and mother.
Rose is survived by her sister, Geraldine Lufkin; and nephew, John Lufkin, of Livermore Falls; and her four children: Judith R. Stanhope, of Portland; Jerome D. Stanhope, and his wife Virginia, of Hallowell; Dennis J.K. Stanhope and Cynthia S. Bertocci, of Thomaston; three grandchildren: Joseph C. Stanhope, of Hallowell; Elena S. Bertocci and Philip S. Bertocci, of Thomaston; and numerous nieces and nephews of the Stanhope clan. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; and son-in-law, Thomas A. Bertocci.
The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Rebecca Hemphill and the staff of Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their kind and professional care.
At this time there are no services scheduled. A graveside service will be announced in the spring, at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland. Services are under the direction of
