ALFRED - Roland J. Dubois, 91, of Alfred passed away on Dec. 25, 2018 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Roland was born in Sanford, Maine and was the son of Henry and Yvonne Dubois. He graduated from Sanford High School before entering into the Navy where he served four years as an aviation technician aboard naval aircraft carriers.

In 1952, after the navy, Roland started a flooring business in Sanford which he operated for 18 years. Roland found success soon after in the real estate profession where he was one of the first to implement the MLS (Multiple Listing Service) system and was chosen as Realtor of the Year. Roland was a long time member and President of the Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce. He was also president and member of the Sanford-Springvale Lions Club. He also served 23 years as a trustee of the Sanford Water District. Roland was one of the three representatives for the consolidation of all three catholic schools which now form St. Thomas School.

Roland enjoyed restoring antique cars and participated in the Maine Obsolete Automobile League (MOALS) and taking many joy rides with his family. Roland was a devout Catholic and very active with his church for much of his life. He was a member of several parish boards and was a communicant of the Catholic Church. Roland kept himself very busy helping others and would never turn someone away that needed help. Roland's family was always his first priority and was a very caring and loving person.

Roland was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Yvonne of Sanford.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rejeanne Thereault Dubois; his sons, Michael Dubois and wife, Anne Marie, David Dubois and wife, Ida, all of Sanford, daughter, Linda Dubois of Wells; two sisters, Beatrice Cote and Cecile Dumont and husband, Arthur, all of Sanford. Roland was most proud of his nine grandchildren, Jesse Dubois and wife, Renee, Kari Chow and husband, Barry, Jason Dubois and wife, Kara, Sarah Ouellette and husband, Josh, Laura, Nathan and Emma Dubois, Chanel and Jordan Chadbourne; two great-granddaughters as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to all the staff of Huntington Commons for their compassionate care.
