GORHAM - Robert W. Hauser, Jr., 92 years old, of Gorham, passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center on Feb. 7, 2018, following a heart attack. He was born July 6, 1925, to Robert and Helen Hauser, Sr., in Winston Salem, N.C.
He served proudly in the United States Navy during WWII in the European African area. In his youth, he worked for the U.S. Senate at the White House before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. During that time, he met and married Eleanor Fogg, and they moved to South Portland, where they raised their family. He and Eleanor traveled all over in their R.V. for many years. After the Navy, he worked for the South Portland Water District, then provided Civil Service for the U.S. Coast Guard as an Industrial Supervisor at the South Portland Base, retiring with 38 years of service. He was a "Jack of all trades", there wasn't anything he couldn't do. He loved being with his children, grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed his daily phone calls from his children. Robert and his buddies went to the Q Street Restaurant for breakfast daily and played pool and poker twice weekly in his game room. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR racing and going out to eat. In his later years, he would go to his son's camp on Sebago Lake where he loved to sit watching the boats, his sons flying their radio-controlled planes, and family barbecues.
He was a Mason with Hiram Lodge # 180 in South Portland, and a member of the Shriners. Robert was also a volunteer Boy Scout Leader, and proud to see both of his sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor; brother, Jack Hauser; daughters, Julia Ann Hauser, Loris Bell Hauser, Sharon Littlefield; son, Robert Hauser III.
Robert will be greatly missed and is survived by his children, Lorene Hebert of Naples, Larry and Gail Hauser of Standish, David and Lisa of Scarborough, Alyane and Scott Grover of Limington; his loving sisters, Betty Scott, Mary Hutchins and Sara Clements all of N.C.; 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew.
Visiting hours will be 4-7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
