PORTLAND -- Ralph Edward Dahms, 72, of Portland, died peacefully on Jan. 7, 2013, at the Barron Center.
He was born on Nov. 4, 1940, in Portland, the son of Ralph F. and Sarah Meserve Dahms. He attended Rosa E. True and Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, Mass.
Ralph operated a concession stand in the basement of City Hall for over 30 years retiring in 1997. He received four awards for outstanding service by his department. He was a Golden member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #565 in Portland.
Ralph was an avid Red Sox and Sea Dogs Fan.
He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Shirley Dekubber, and two brothers, Alfred and Walter. Surviving are four sisters, Beverly Dahms of South Portland, Jean Dahms of Gorham, Patricia Roberts of Gorham, Judith Jones and her husband Al of Vassalboro, three brothers, Carl and his wife Beverly of Scarborough, Richard and his wife Suzanne of Gorham, Ronald and his wife Deborah of Windham; several nieces, nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Ralph's family would like to express their thanks to the nurses and staff of the Barron Center for Ralph's Wonderful Care.
Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday at the chapel, followed by a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress St., Portland. Interment will follow in Brooklawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Portland. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ctcrawford.com.
