DENVER - Patricia Rene Appelbaum, MSW (nee Harding) 86, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018 with family by her side in Falmouth, Maine.

Pat grew up in Jordan, N.Y. From her teen years on she spent summers in Southern Maine. Pat graduated from Syracuse University in 1953 and was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. She received her Master of Social Work degree in 1956 from Columbia University and completed her clinical work at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. She worked as a psychiatric social worker at University of Colorado Psychiatric Hospital before taking time to raise her family. Pat volunteered at Steck and Dora Moore elementary schools in Denver. She returned to work in grant writing/counseling for Denver Women's Resource Center, helping women in transition, then joined Seniors, Inc. to assist seniors with job training/placement.

Pat was best known for her contributions as a social worker/housing counselor at Community Housing Services, where she edited the Senior Locator guide--considered an invaluable housing resource for displaced, low-income, and seniors. She was also a highly respected (and passionate!) collector of early American antiques.

Throughout her entire life, Pat was an incredibly loving mother. She is deeply missed by her three children, Dale, Leslie, and John, her grandchildren (April, Camden, Kiernan, Parker, Skyler and Sophia) as well as the many, many people whose lives she touched. A life well lived.

A memorial reception following the burial will be held at the University of Southern Maine President's House, 37 College Avenue in Gorham, from 12:00-3:00 Monday, October 15, 2018.
