SCARBOROUGH - Melinda Ellen (Skillings) Wood, 75, formerly of Cape Elizabeth, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019.

Linda was born in 1943 in Portland. She was a graduate of Rogers High School in Newport, R.I. in 1961. She worked in the insurance field before marrying her husband and starting a family.

She married the love of her life, G. Wayne Wood in October of 1965 in Cape Elizabeth. They raised two children, John Wayne and Melissa Marlene in Cape Elizabeth, and in the Burlington and Charlotte, Vt. area.

Linda loved to read, travel, decorate and do arts and crafts. She shared a passion for genealogy with her mother and several cousins. Her creativity was endless. She loved having company and her home was a second home to countless friends and family members.

Her role as a grandmother was by far the most meaningful to her. Linda was proud of all of them and was involved in their every accomplishment and milestone. They were the center of her world and she helped raise every one. She was most happy when she was surrounded by her entire family and had everyone close by.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Wayne Wood; and her parents, Raymond H. and Eleanor A. Harper. She is survived by her daughter Melissa M. Cloutier and her husband John, her son John W. Wood and his wife Bertha; grandchildren Mitchell, Shannon, Courtney and Melanie Cloutier and Travis and Meagan Wood; great- grandchildren Allison and Aiden Wilkins. She is also survived by her sister Mercedes E. Kent of Rhode Island, Rex M. Harper and Marita Ray Glasier of Maine; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland, with a reception to follow at Maria's, 337 Cumberland Ave. in Portland. Burial will be at a later date at Seaside Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
