Lynn Sleeper Colby, 69
PORTLAND - Lynn Sleeper Colby, 69, of Portland, Maine, passed away on Sept. 12, 2018, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Lynn was born in Hartford, Conn., on Feb. 22, 1949, to Alfred and Barbara (Raphael) Sleeper, and spent most of her childhood in Framingham, Mass. Lynn graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1971 and moved to Portland where she was a devoted elementary school teacher in the Portland Public Schools for 39 years until her retirement in 2010. Lynn spent a majority of her career teaching third and fifth grades at Harrison Lyseth Elementary School and continued teaching as a substitute following her retirement. Over the years, Lynn remained active in her church at St. Ann's Episcopal in Windham. She was also involved for many years with the Jaycees, the Girl Scouts and her local community. She hosted countless Bunco game nights and most recently enjoyed playing Mahjong with her close friends from Lyseth. Lynn never missed the opportunity to watch her grandchildren play sports and always valued time spent with her family.
Lynn leaves behind her husband, William Colby; daughters, Amy Chapin and her husband (Philip Beaudoin), Christine and her husband (Jerry) Legere; son, Mark and his wife (Vicki) Colby; and grandchildren, Benjamin, Elaina, and Andrew Legere, Shannon and Shawn Colby, and Matthew Dowdell-Smith. Lynn also leaves her sisters, Debra Olthouse and Jodi Sleeper-Triplett.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018 from 4-7 p.m., at
