June Margaret Robichaud, 86
CAPE ELIZABETH - June Margaret Robichaud, 86, of Cape Elizabeth, passed away on Feb. 6, 2018, at South Portland Nursing Home, after a long struggle with advanced dementia, with her loving family at her side.
June was married to the love of her life, Clifford Robichaud, retired captain of the Portland Fire Department. She couldn't have had a more loyal and amazingly dedicated husband. They were married for 25 years. Cliff was a devoted caregiver. He cared for June at home beyond anyone's belief and continued his vigil at the South Portland Nursing Home. Cliff and June enjoyed their life together and shared a love for antiques, history, motorcycles, and their visits to Kettle Cove.
June was born on March 23, 1931, in the beautiful village of Penn, near Wolverhampton, England. She was one of the first of modest class girls at age 11 to pass into the prestigious, if rather Victorian, Wolverhampton Girls High School.
In 1955, she immigrated with her former husband, Michael Bowdler, to this continent. She lived in Toronto, Calgary, New Zealand, Ottawa and San Diego before settling in Cape Elizabeth, the place she loved for its rural and natural beauty reminiscent of her native England.
Her employment invariably included interesting and inspiring work. In 1956 in San Diego she was the first female hired at a new 1950s rock station, "The Mighty Six-Ninety." Here she met numerous celebrity artists of that era, including Johnny Mathis and Pat Boone. In 1958, she worked for the British High Commission in Ottawa, Canada. Later in life she was the business manager of The Children's School, a private primary school in La Jolla, California.
June Robichaud is survived by her husband, Clifford Robichaud, of Cape Elizabeth; her brother, Graham Moore, of Staffordshire, England, and his wife, Mary, and daughter, Beth; her son, Mark Bowdler, and his wife, Lisa, of Cape Elizabeth; her daughter, Liana Bowdler, of La Jolla, Calif.; and her two grandchildren, Briana Tovey, and Matthew Tovey and his wife, Caitlin, all of San Diego. She is also survived by Cliff's children, Laura Sutherland and her husband, Bernie; and Jon Robichaud of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
June brought love, inspiration, kindness and grace to all and will be sorely missed by all those who were lucky enough to have known her. The chorus from a song that June loved:
"There'll be bluebirds over...the white cliffs of Dover...tomorrow...just you wait and see."

Special thanks to the South Portland Nursing Home and Beacon Hospice for their loving care.
