CUMBERLAND - On Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018, Julie Thurston, wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away at the age of 61 years. She was born on Sept. 27, 1957, in South Portland and raised her family in Cumberland.

Julie was far from simple or ordinary. She was larger than life. Julie truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: reading, knitting and spending time with loved ones. Julie was also adventurous. She loved to be outdoors: swimming, paddleboarding, and hiking. She was always at the center of anything fun. For several years, Julie and her husband traveled in their RV across the United States. She enjoyed her time on these adventures, making memories, and visiting family and lifelong friends.

Family and friends were Julie's true love in life. Julie had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She was the glue that holds all of us together, always making sure no one ever felt left out. Julie is now the angel looking over her loved ones. Her signature gift of joy will never be forgotten, nor will her constant smiling dimples, laughter, and joking around.

Julie will be lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend of 40 years, Dale Thurston; by her children, Megan (Nicholas) Becker and Sean (Karen Casey) Thurston; by her mother, Audrey Kendall; by her granddaughter, Lynara Thurston; and by Wanda Pickering and Kim Anderson, who were like sisters. Julie will also be forever remembered by her extended family and dear friends. Julie is preceded in death by her father, Warren Kendall; her brother, Warren Kendall; as well as her daughter, Heather Thurston.

The celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 14, 2018. at The First Baptist Church in South Portland. Reverend Daniel Coffin will be officiating.

The family encourages you to spend time with loved ones, travel to the places that your heart desires, and toast to lifelong friendships. That is what Julie would wish for you.
