Josephine Patricia (Morris) Marr, 84
FALMOUTH FORESIDE - Josephine Patricia (Morris) Marr died peacefully at home Sunday, May 20, 2018, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. She was 84.
She leaves her beloved husband, John; daughter, Elizabeth and husband, Michael, of Cumberland; son, John Jr. and wife, Rebecca, of Falmouth; son, Timothy and wife, Jamie, of Portland; son, William and wife, Lisa, of Larchmont, N.Y.; and daughter, Abigail and husband, George, of Yarmouth. She also leaves 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Born March 12, 1934, to John and Mary (McDermott) Morris who had moved to Maine from Ireland, Josephine graduated Cathedral High School in 1951, was a devoted Catholic and lifelong communicant of Holy Martyrs, where she was baptized, married, and where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated.
One of seven children and a proud twin, she leaves her sister, Mary T. Honan of Falmouth, and was predeceased by brothers, John ("Brother"), Edward, twin Joseph; and sisters, Ann and Barbara. She will be missed by dozens of nieces and nephews who cherished their Aunt "Pretty Penie."
Married since 1956, Josephine was a devoted wife and mother. She and John enjoyed many years with family and friends on Falmouth Foreside, in Naples, Fla., traveling, and playing golf. Jo was known to many for her vibrant personality and competitive nature. She was always up for rummy, backgammon, bowling, golf, or any other game, as long as it was played for money.
No moment was too big for Jo, and she thrived under pressure as evidenced by her multiple women's golf championships, and three holes-in-one.
The Marr family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who took such incredible care of Josephine over the past several years; Patti Bruce, Kim Hobbs, April Ballard, Megan Cressler, Emily Brown, and Martha Martin.
Visiting hours celebrating Jo's life will be held on Thursday, May 24, from 4-7 p.m., at the
Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home
, 172 State St., Portland. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Friday, May 25 at 12 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Martyrs Church, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Falmouth.
