Joan "Jo Ann" Francis Doughty, 80
Joan "Jo Ann" Francis Doughty, 80, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth.
Joan was born on March 6, 1937, in Portland, to James Neales and Ellen Hight Neales. She spent her early life living in Portland attending local schools. She met the love her life, Dwight Doughty Sr., and married on Sept. 20, 1958. Joan and Dwight raised three children in Cumberland, Dwight Doughty Jr., Brenda Doughty and Douglas Doughty.
Joan loved all children and was a kind and steady figure in the lives of her family and community. She will be remembered for giving unselfishly to positively impact the lives of her children and grandchildren.
Although quiet, she was known for leaving an impression on those who knew her through her compassion and kindness. Joan was also loved for her passionate approach to protecting family and those close to her, and she was known to be feisty when the situation called for it.
Surviving are her husband, Dwight Aaron Doughty Sr. of Cumberland; two sons, Dwight Doughty Jr. of Winthrop, Douglas Allen Doughty of Portland, a daughter, Brenda Lee Doughty of Brunswick; and seven grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at
Lindquist Funeral Home,
1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A graveside service will be held Dec. 8, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Walnut Hill Cemetery in North Yarmouth.
