Janice Beth Reale, 57

CAPE ELIZABETH - Janice Beth Reale, 57, of Crescent View Avenue, died Thursday, May 11, 2017, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.

Jan was born June 3, 1959, in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of John and Camille Reale.

She earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from Boston College, a physician assistant certificate from Yale University, and an Educational Technician III certificate from the Maine Department of Education.

Jan worked in a variety of roles, from child care worker and physician assistant in the Boston area, to health center coordinator in Miami, to owner of a photography business in Massachusetts, to properties manager in Maine. She was well-known in Cape Elizabeth for her projects documenting the lives of the town's senior citizens.

In addition to her varied careers, Jan was active in many local, national and international organizations, raising funds and volunteering for those in need.

She was a passionate and accomplished photographer, artist, and writer and a dedicated endurance athlete, impressively completing many marathons, triathlons, and bike races to benefit a variety of charities.

Above all, Jan was a devoted and loving mother, daughter, sister and friend who will be deeply missed.

Jan was predeceased by her father, John Reale, in 1985.

She is survived by her children, Matthew Reale-Hatem and Olivia Reale-Hatem; mother, Camille Reale of Trumbull, Conn.; and brothers, Josh Reale (and his wife Isabel and nephews Jonathan and Joshua), of Amsterdam, N.Y.; Mark Reale (and his wife Debbie and son, R.J.), of Trumbull; and Matthew Reale (and his partner Diane Hotchkiss), also of Trumbull.

Visitors may greet the family Wednesday, May 17, from 10-11 a.m. at State Street Church, 159 State St., Portland. A celebration of Jan's life will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be private. Parking is available across the street at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home.
