Obituary

SCARBOROUGH - It is with deep sadness that we report the loss of our mother, grandmother and sister, Jane Everett, 84, on Dec. 9, 2018. Jane was born in Portland on June 29, 1934, to Ernest L. and Louise Greenwood. After graduating from Westbrook High School in 1952 she went on to study at Westbrook College. She married Arthur Everett in 1961 and happily raised two children for whom she often said was her most joyous accomplishment. She was a lifelong learner, getting her real estate license and then a medical assistance certification. She had two successful career paths: one in real estate and in one the medical field. She eventually retired from Agency 1 in Scarborough and continued to enjoy part time employment well into retirement. Jane was such a good sport going along with just about anything we planned including motorcycle rides with her son on his Harley Fat Boy, sailing with her daughter and son-in-law and traveling to faraway places such as Hong Kong, Alaska, California and Bermuda with family and friends and following the Patriots football team. Before moving to Coastal Landing in Brunswick in 2017 to be closer to family she was an active member of The First Congregational Church in Scarborough, volunteering on various committees and in the Food Pantry. While she missed her Scarborough friends after she moved to Brunswick, she made many, many new friends at Coastal Landing who enriched her life and filled her with love. She rarely missed an exercise class and loved playing and teaching bridge. It was amazing how easily she made that transition. She will be forever missed and loved by those left behind including her daughter, Cindy and son-in-law Spencer Drake, son Bruce and life partner Diane Taylor; her grandchildren, Katie Drake and Spencer Everett Drake; her sister Elizabeth; and many other family members and friends, too many to list them all.Our family is sincerely grateful to Dr. Philip Frederick for his wonderful medical care over many years and the team at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their comfort and care of her and our family at her passing.A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at The First Congregational Church in Scarborough followed by a celebration of Jane's life.Arrangements entrusted to Hobbs Funeral Home, Scarborough.
