George D. Doucette, 75

SCARBOROUGH - George D. Doucette, 75, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

George was born in Van Buren, on June 10, 1942, the son of the late George S. and Antoinette (Violette) Doucette. George grew up in Portland and attended St. Dominic's, as well as Portland High School.

George took time off from high school to join the United States Marines. After being honorably discharged from the service, he worked several jobs and then went to work as a mechanic at Hews Company for 35 years.

Sandra (Prive) and George married on May 15, 1965, at St. John the Evangelist Church. George enjoyed bowling for many years, belonging to a men's 10-pin league at Pride's Corner and a couples' candlepin league at Big 20 Bowling Center.

He was well-known at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, taking great pride in helping his neighbor and friend, Everett Coburn, build/work on his super modified racecar #5. He also enjoyed woodworking, making many items for his grandsons to enjoy.

George was also a member at Willowdale Golf Club for 52 years and enjoyed every chance he got to play, especially with his grandsons. He was a diehard Yankee fan, never going anywhere without his Yankee hat.

George will be remembered for his good humor, being a number 1 fan to both grandsons, for his gift to gab and running into someone he knew wherever he went.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra Doucette; a daughter, Wendy Doucette Broy, and her husband Daniel; three sisters: Barbara Doucette Foley, Paula Doucette McDonald and her husband Norman, and June Doucette Dominicus and her husband Rick; and three brothers: Carroll Doucette, Rodney Doucette and his wife Nancy, and Lester Doucette. George is also survived by his two grandchildren, Steven and Justin Broy; many nieces and nephews; as well as his beloved dog, Jenny.

Sandra and Wendy would like to thank the nurses and staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice for their great care; as well as their good friends, Steve and Evelyn Hundley, for their continued friendship and support.

Visiting hours and a Celebration of Life will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel.
