Edwin Eugene Libby, 81

Edwin was born on Jan. 26, 1936 to Cecil E. & Francis (Harrington) Libby on Gloucester Hill Rd. He graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1954.
On June 20, 1958, Edwin married Jean E Carll, whom he was married to for 59 years. Together they raised their two boys Donald and Steven in Edwin's childhood home. In 1987, Edwin and Jean built their new home just 500 feet closer to the top of the hill.
Edwin worked as a mechanic at the Oliver Stores in New Gloucester until 1960 at which time he went to work at the Portland Company as a Machinist. In 1979, he went to work for the Reece Corporation in Gorham until 1991 when he went to work for Pioneer Plastics in Auburn. Edwin Retired in 1998.
Edwin always enjoyed hunting and fishing with his two boys. He enjoyed many years of watching auto racing and traveling to different race tracks with his family. Edwin and Jean enjoyed many trips antiquing looking for old post cards of New Gloucester. For many years Edwin served as the trail master for the Royal River Riders Snowmobile Club. Ed enjoyed taking his family on several snowmobile trips to different parts of Maine. One of Edwin's favorite memories was visiting the Henry Ford Museum.
One of Edwin's true love's for life was his three grandchildren, Samantha, Isaac and Christina. He was always their biggest fan and cheerleader, best cookie maker, great story teller. The grandchildren said there was nothing better than spending an afternoon with Grampa and Saturday night pizza. His grandchildren soon found out that Edwin had a love for whipped cream and would put it on anything and everything.
Edwin is survived by his wife Jean; sons Donald and wife Jean (Young) New Gloucester, Steven and wife Dorene (LaChapelle) New Gloucester; grandchildren, Samantha Elizabeth, Isaac Edwin and Christina Jean. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his black lab companion Abby-Lynn who adored him so much.
The family would like to thank the staff and transitional care team at Marshwood Rehabilitation facility for their wonderful and compassionate care of Edwin.
