    Cummings, 84
     BATH -- Edward James Cummings, 84, of Oak Street, Bath died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, at home with his family, following a year long illness.
     The son of John W. and Mary Jane Cummings, he was born in Bath on Dec. 22, 1923. He lived his whole life in the house in which he was born.
     He was predeceased by his sisters, Rita, Margaret and Frances, brothers, John, Richard, Tom and twin brother, Robert. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Laraine Holmes Cummings; his two daughters, Jennifer J. Guzikowski and her husband Richard, Mary Grill and her husband Tony, his son, Jeffrey J. Cummings; and his three grandchildren, Aaron Guzikowski and his wife, Alison, Adam Guzikowski and Haley Grill; as well as many nieces and nephews.
     He attended Bath schools, and graduated from Morse High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy, and was a veteran of World War II. Shortly after the war, he began a long career as an electrician, starting at Jackson's Electric of Bath. He retired in 1986 from his nephew's business, RC Electric.
     A master electrician, he taught his trade to many members of his family. In the 1960s he was a member and then chairman of the Bath City Council. He was also a past commander of the Smith Tobey post of the American Legion, a member of the Bath Lodge of Elks and a lifelong member of St. Mary's parish.
     He enjoyed his summer camp at Merrymeeting Bay, duck hunting, boating, fishing and gatherings with family and friends. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Bath Country Club.
     Known as a most loving and generous man; he could be found on any given day caring for family and friends in need. He will be sadly missed by all.
     Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the David E. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bath. Burial will be in the spring at Calvary Cemetery in Bath.
