FAYETTE - Duane W. Mercier, 66, a resident of Fayette, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. The most important thing to Duane was family. Most conversations with him were things that could be measured or calculated, but many of his thoughts were about things that were limitless and intangible. He said, "The meaning of life is to love and be loved. I love my family, and I know that I am loved".

Duane was born into the family of Wilfred and Noella Mercier on May 11, 1952. He had three sisters whom he deeply loved: Linda Baillargeon (husband, Clem), Sharon Folker (husband, Frank), and Claudia Marlott. Duane worked at Cony High School for 13 years as a math teacher and chess coach. For the remainder of his career he worked as an actuary in the Portland area. Duane was married to Anita (Girardin) Mercier on Dec. 29, 1973. Together they had three children: Wilfred Mercier (wife, Anna), Andre Mercier (wife, Katie), and Davis Mercier (wife, Jess). He lived his life for family and loved nothing more than spending time at home with his wife and sons. He was overjoyed to celebrate and witness the marriage of all of his sons and watch his family grow with the addition of his two grandchildren, Evie and Blake Mercier. He loved watching "The Blake and Evie Show" whenever his family came together.

Funeral services honoring Duane's life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 16, 2018, at St. Rose of Lima Church, 1 Church St., Jay, Maine. A reception will follow at the St. Rose Parish Hall, across the street, immediately following the funeral mass.
