Claudette Horr, 81
SANFORD - Claudette Horr, 81, of Sanford, died with her family by her side, on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at the Gosnell Memorial Hos-pice House in Scarborough, following a brief illness.
Claudette was born on May 23, 1936, to Claude and Irene (Beals) Elwell, in Sanford, where she grew up and attended local schools. The majority of her life was devoted to caring for and raising her family.
When her children were grown, she was employed at U.S. Optical Disc in Sanford, where she stayed for 10 years until her retirement.
Claudette had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was Past Matron of the Clover Chapter. The Clover Chapter eventually merged with the Ruth Chapter, where she was also a member for many years. She was a very clever and artistic woman. She enjoyed oil painting, crafting and knitting, and often attended craft fairs where she would sell the various items she had made. She was an avid book reader, having read thousands of books in her lifetime. Claudette loved animals and was particularly fond of her cat, Cosmo. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Claudette was predeceased by her husband, Everard Horr, in 2001.
Surviving are three children, Everard "Lenny" Horr, of Sanford; Erika Lynn Rose, of Limington; and Ellen Richter, of New Mexico; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat, Cosmo.
A graveside service will be held at a date to be announced in the spring, at the Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford. Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale. To leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit:
