PORTLAND - Charles Rounds Huntoon, Jr., 103, of Portland, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2018, at his residence.

Charles was born in Rumford, the son of the late Charles and the late Helen (Hopkins) Huntoon. He graduated from Rumford High School in 1934 and University of Maine Orono in 1939. It was at Orono where he met his future wife, Elizabeth (Curtis) Huntoon, whom he married on June 15, 1940. The two shared 66 years of marriage before her passing in 2007.

Charles served in the Army Air Corps as a B-24 pilot in Europe. After returning home, he began his career as a chemical engineer for the paper making industry. He worked for Scott Paper, CJ Merrill, and Sappi Fine Paper. He was a supporter of various organizations including The Boy Scouts, University of Maine Engineering, and Bethel Historical Society. He was also a long time member of Woodfords Club and Williston Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Martha Page of Haverhill, Mass. and Debi Kruk of Portland; five grandchildren, Sarah Page Olson and her husband William Olson of Beverly, Mass., Elizabeth Akerman and her husband Alec of Allentown, Pa., Robert Page of Denver, Colo., Luke Foley and his wife Kate of Philadelphia, Pa., and Jerrod Foley and his wife Alyssa of Allentown, Pa.; and five great-grandchildren.

A visiting hour will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland, with a 2 p.m. memorial service to follow at the funeral home. Interment will be private at a later date.

His family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at 75 State Street.
