Charles Lawrence Brown Jr. Obituary
Charles Lawrence Brown Jr., 71
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - Charles Lawrence Brown Jr., 71, of St. Simons Island, Ga., passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at his residence with his wife and daughters by his side.
Charlie was born in 1944 in Brunswick. He spent much of his childhood with his grandparents on Bailey Island. He worked as a sternman alongside his grandfather on his lobster boat until his graduation from Maine Maritime Academy, where he obtained his degree in marine engineering and was Regimental Commander. In 1968 he married his wife Jacqueline. He was a lieutenant in the Naval Reserves and a merchant mariner until he came ashore, working for Stone & Webster in Boston. He and Jackie returned to Maine to raise their family, and he worked for E.C. Jordan Engineering in Portland. He spent nearly all of his spare time on the ocean, hunting, fishing, clamming and cruising Downeast Maine. He was an avid sailor. He and Jackie loved to sail Casco Bay and the coast of Maine with their many friends. They enjoyed participating in races and regattas at the Portland Yacht Club where he was a past Commodore.
Six years ago he and Jackie moved to St. Simons Island, Ga., where he attempted to retire three times, but Charlie liked to be busy and would take "one more job," working as an independent engineering consultant. He adored his Lab Bailey, taking her for long walks on the beach. He cherished the friends he made on the island: the crew at Marsh Point, Bella Italia, and his cribbage group at Delany's. He gave 100% in every aspect of his life and would drop whatever he was doing to help others, a kind and loyal friend to all who were fortunate enough to know him. ~Trick's End
