Charles Laurence Flagg, 76
PEORIA, Ill. - Charles Laurence Flagg, 76, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, will be missed dearly. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at Grandview Alzheimer's Special Care Center, in Peoria, Ill., where he resided.
Charlie began his life in Portland, Maine, where he was born on Feb. 21, 1941, to Floyd and Pauline (Floyd) Flagg, who preceded him in death. He graduated in 1959 from Portland High School, where he played football and was a member of the Bronzy Club. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Always a dedicated and hard worker, Charlie went on to spend more than 30 years with American National Can Company, and another 10 with Crown, Cork & Seal Company.
Charlie married Diane (Huff) Flagg on Sept. 12, 1964, and they went on to celebrate nearly 51 wonderful years together, until Diane passed away on Sept. 3, 2015. Charlie was friendly, loved being social and was most happy working in his yard, or playing golf with his wife and their many friends. They loved to travel to Las Vegas and Mesquite, Nev., and spent many winters in Florida, enjoying many cruises. Charlie also loved returning to Higgins Beach in Scarborough, during summers, where he would reminisce with longtime friends. Charlie and Diane went on to have three children and eight grandchildren.
Charlie is survived by daughter, Julie (Corey) Soeldner; son, Michael; daughter, Nancy (Bruce) Day; grandchildren, Stephanie, Justin, Emily, Hayden, Mikaila, Lucas, Lauren and Logan; sister-in-law, Nancy (Huff) Stewart; sisters, Barbara (Flagg) Melideo, Carol (Flagg) Young, Elizabeth Flagg, and Patricia (Flagg) McGeehan; and brothers, John Flagg, Robert Flagg, and William Flagg. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret (Flagg) McCullough; and brother, Richard Flagg.
Charlie missed his wife dearly and we know he is now at peace and again with his beloved Diane.
