Carmen Carter, 89
SCARBOROUGH - It is with a sad heart that I am sharing the news that Carmen Carter has left this world to meet her creator. She died peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 6, 2018, in Scarborough where she lived.
She is survived by a brother, Norman Roger Carter. Carmen was predeceased by two brothers, Leo and Albert and two sisters, Jeannette Beety and Claudette Richardson. She had several nieces and nephews.
Carmen was born June 6, 1928 to Marguerite Dumont Carter and Fred Carter in Lewiston, Maine and graduated from Deering High School in Portland. Upon graduating, she worked at Bell Telephone in Portland, uMaine ntil she transferred to Sacramento, Calif. She also enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at Mather AFB where she was one of the first females to attain the rank of Chief Master Sargent, serving for 23 years. She received medals for Antarctica Service, National Defense Service, Air Force Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Reserve, and the Air Force Meritorious Medal.
After retiring from Bell Telephone and the Air Force she returned to Maine to be near family.
Family and Friends are invited to celebrate her life on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 11 a.m.
