Barbara J. Kittredge Obituary
Barbara J. "BJ" Kittredge, 58
MOUNT VERNON - Barbara J. "BJ" Kittredge of Mount Vernon died unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016. She was born March 18, 1957, in Westborough, Mass., the daughter of Philip M. and Barbara J. (Hart) Kittredge.
BJ attended Bates College in Lewiston and graduated in 1978 with a BS in Physics. After further studies at UMass she went to work for AT&T in New Jersey at Bell Laboratories. She stayed with AT&T for 25 years, taking on positions of greater responsibility and accumulating 20 patents with the company. In 1981 she married Paul Faustine whom she had met at Bates.
While in New Jersey, BJ became a balloon pilot under the tutelage of balloon pioneer Bob Sparks. She flew in many events and occasional mornings from her back yard. For those times when flying was not possible, she turned to kite flying and juggling.
Moving to Brunswick in 2002, fulfilled a long time goal of getting back to Maine. BJ worked remotely for AT&T and assisted Paul in establishing and running Red Dragon Toys, taking on the position of Teddy Bear Expert and Doll Consultant. In 2005, BJ joined Bath Iron Works working on the new Zumwalt-class DDG-1000. She was there 10 years as Principal Engineer and was thrilled to witness the ship's departure for its initial sea trials.
While in Brunswick, BJ was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir with daughter Caroline, and working with the vestry. She also spent some years working with Destination Imagination, finding advantage in having ready access to a toy store. In 2013, BJ and Paul moved to their home on Echo Lake in Mount Vernon and have spent the time since living their dream.
BJ was predeceased by her parents; and is survived by her husband Paul; their daughter Caroline Kittredge Faustine of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her brother Philip Kittredge and his wife Donna of Westborough, Mass.; Trevor Bostic of Portland; aunts, uncles; cousins; nieces and nephews scattered throughout the country; and a passel of in-laws who have been so much more than that for so long.
A service will be held at St. Paul's Church, 27 Pleasant St., Brunswick, at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016.
