FALMOUTH - On Jan. 21, 2019, Barbara Helen Marshall leaped life's last hurdle. She was born Sept. 2, 1921, in Gorham, NH. At 97, Barbara's positive outlook on life no doubt contributed as much to her longevity as did her commitment to staying physically fit. For many years a swimming instructor at the Portland YWCA, she followed her passion for fitness to the end; actively participating in programs at the "Y" and swimming at her summer camp on Sabbathday Lake. Barbara was also a skilled seamstress, china painter and acrylic artist. An avid reader, she was a frequent visitor at the Falmouth Public Library. Barbara graduated as a Phys Ed major from the University of New Hampshire. in 1944 where she met and married William H. Marshall in 1946. His death in 1985 was her greatest loss. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister. Barbara leaves a son; two grand-sons; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Barbara truly cherished her many friendships; especially Dorothy, Paula, Diana, Bob and Doug, who made her days so much richer. Sadly, the Boston Red Sox will now have one less fan cheering them on to victory. We all miss the mischief in her smile and the twinkle in her eye. Barbara's remains will be interred at the Gates Cemetery in Dummer, NH.
