Derek Steven Crowe, 26
GORHAM - Derek Steven Crowe lost his battle to heroin addiction on Sept. 8, 2016, at his residence. He was born in Portland on Oct. 19, 1989, to Cynthia (Leason) Crowe and Dennis Crowe. He attended Gorham schools and graduated in 2008.
Derek worked in several restaurants in the Portland area as a line and sous chef, most recently at Boone's on Commercial Street. He was very bright and a hard worker. He was very proud of the fact that he could be dropped into complicated and stressful cooking situations and perform admirably.
Derek loved his family, especially his sister who was his inspiration to live a better life. He loved dogs and would take the family dogs and a friend's dog on long walks on trails in Gorham and Windham. Derek was active in youth sports playing football, basketball, and baseball. Derek enjoyed his time with family, especially at Popham Beach and trips to Idaho and Colorado with all of his cousins.
Derek was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Newton and Irene Crowe and maternal grandmother, Barbara Leason. Derek is survived by his parents of Gorham; his sister, Kelsey of Gorham; and his maternal grandfather Robert Leason of Topsham. He also has numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Parish Congregational Church, 1 Church Street, Gorham.
