Joseph D. Vacchiano, 84
WESTBROOK -- Joseph D. Vacchiano, 84, passed away at his home on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014 after a brief illness from pancreatic cancer.
He was born on Aug. 12, 1929 in Portland, a son of the late Patrick & Lillian (Nelson) Vacchiano. He graduated from South Portland High School and attended Bowdoin College.
He was a loving husband and a good family man. Joseph had many friends that he enjoyed playing golf and poker with. He was a member of The Italian Heritage and The
, both in Portland.
He owned and operated Pat's Meat Market until retiring in 2001.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Sandra L. (Allen) Vacchiano; his daughter, Leslie Wenzel of Long Island, N.Y., his sons, Joey and Jamie Vacchiano, both of Portland; his step-daughter, Wendy Poitras and her husband, Mike of Gorham, and his step- son, Brad Marston and his wife, Sue of Windham. He also leaves his grandchildren, Nick and Elliot Vacchiano of Portland, Erin Lauzier and her husband, Jay of Gray, Lindsey and Corey Poitras of Gorham, and Seth and Kaleigh Marston of Windham, sister-in-law, Jeanne Stiles and her husband, Lawrence; brother- in-law, Bud Allen and his wife, Cindy; nieces, nephews and their families. Special thanks to Cheryl Vacchiano.
There will be no visiting hours or funeral services at Joseph's request; a private graveside service will be held at a later date.
