OLD ORCHARD BEACH -- Jeannine Belisle, 83, of Old Orchard Beach, and Bloomfield, Conn., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice, in Scarborough.
She was born in Saco on June 22, 1930, the daughter of Arthur and Marie Jeanne (Precourt) Belisle. Jeannine graduated from Thornton Academy, class of 1948. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Gorham State Teachers College in 1952 and completed her master's degree in Education from Colorado State in 1954. She received her sixth year professional degree from University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn., in 1960.
Jeannine was the sixth grade teacher at Weeks Street School in Bath in 1953. From 1954-1970, she taught biology, algebra, geometry, math and calculus at Weaver High School in Hartford, Conn. She also worked as a guidance counselor and was chairman of the guidance department.
From 1970-1991, Jeannine was vice principal and later principal at East Hartford High in Connecticut. She belonged to the following educational associations CEANEA and Delta Kappa Gamma as President. She was on the Board of Directors with Birth Right, Sea Scape Condominiums, and the Interracial Scholarship Committee.
She served as Sacristan, Communion Minister and Lazarus Committee of Sacred Heart Church of Bloomfield, Conn.
Jeannine enjoyed painting, stained glass and making silver jewelry.
She was an avid UNCONN women's basketball team supporter and attended many games.
She is survived by her long time friend, Rosa S. Jennings of Bloomfield, Conn.; one brother, Jerry Belisle and his wife Florrie of Charlton, N.Y., one sister, Priscilla Letendre and her husband Richard of Saco; nine nieces and nephews, Marc Letendre, Ramona Letendre Roznowski, Donald Letendre, Lori Belisle Zahl, Kate Belisle Huser, Lillian Letendre Normand, David Belisle, Amy Belisle Martin, Maureen Belisle LeClerc; 17 great-nieces and nephews; and three grandnephews and nieces.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Margaret's Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Old Orchard Beach. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Biddeford. Arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home, Saco. To send condolences to the family go to www.cotefuneralhome.com.
