MOUNT DORA, Fla. -- Ruth Scherner Nunan, 94, of Mount Dora, Fla., and formerly of Cape Porpoise, died peacefully at home on Jan. 27, 2013.
She was born in Milwaukee, Wis., on April 25, 1918, the daughter of John and Magdelene M. Scherner.
Ruth met her future husband while both working summers at The Island Inn on Monhegean Island. Both Mr. and Mrs. Nunan were educators; Ruth taught First Grade at Kennebunkport Consolidated School for over 20 years. Once retired, the Nunans traveled the country and parts of Canada every winter with their RV, until they settled in Mount Dorain 1989.
An avid reader, Ruth volunteered at the Graves Memorial Library in Kennebunkport, and later at the Bland Public Library in Mount Dora, Fla.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her brother, John Scherner; her son, Robert Nunan; and her husband, Richard. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Nunan of Washington, D.C.; daughter-in-law, Mary Nunan of Hallowell; granddaughters, Melonnie Kelly and husband James of Daytona Beach, Fla., and their children, Lee, Susan and Katelyn, Melinda Fuller of Augusta, and Amy Nunan of Augusta.
