PORTLAND - Frances Mary Linehan, 83, of Portland, died at her home on Nov. 30, 2012, of leukemia. She was born in Boston, Mass., on Aug. 7, 1929, the daughter of James H. and Margaret P. Sheehan Linehan. She was a 1947 graduate of South Portland High School. She attended the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and later received her B.S. in Nursing from Boston College. She later received her master's degree in Nursing from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
As a young woman, Frances worked as a nurse in California, Washington, D.C. and Boston. She later returned to Maine and taught in the University of Southern Maine Nursing Program for several years. Frances subsequently taught at St. Joseph's College School of Nursing in Standish for over 20 years. She belonged to the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association.
Frances was always very active and that continued into her retirement. She loved to travel and enjoyed reading very much. She had many good friends and enjoyed socializing and going to restaurants, the theater and the arts. Above all, she loved spending time with her loving family. She will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, James B. Linehan. Surviving are her niece, Theresa M. "Terry" Linehan of Portland; sister-in-law, Geraldine T. Linehan of Portland; three nephews, James W. Linehan and wife Terri of Portland, David K. Linehan of Greenville, S.C., and Thomas B. Linehan and wife Rebecca of Goffstown, N.H.; five great-nieces and nephews, Ruth, Rose, Abby, Connor and Patrick Linehan; and also several relatives in Connecticut, England, Ireland and Australia.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Stevens Avenue, Portland. Arrangements by Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home. To leave online condolences please visit:
