YARMOUTH -- Nicholas C. Aceto, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at Brentwood Rehab & Nursing Center.
He was born in Portland, the son of John and Maria Aceto. Nick was raised and educated in Portland, and was a 1945 graduate of Portland High School. During his early days he worked as a tailor's apprentice and did tailoring at Passman's Haberdashery Shop. He also worked in various capacities at Portland shipyard.
Nick later worked as a salesman and manager for Canada Dry. He was instrumental in introducing Canada Dry to the State of Maine later was a top manager with Coca Cola.
Nick, along with his wife Carleen, were proprietors of the former PILGRIM HOUSE (interior decorating store) located in Gorham.
Nick played a key role as one of the founders of the Downeast Ski Club. Nick was very active in the Italian Heritage Club, Woodfords Club, and the Catholic Church, especially St. Anne's of Gorham. He was very passionate with his family and friends. As they grew, Nick loved to watch his many nieces and nephews in their various activities (sports, singing, band etc.). Nick was very proud of his Italian heritage taking trips to Italy to discover his family roots and enjoy the Italian culture. He had a passion for cooking and enjoyed pleasing others with his culinary delights.
He is survived by his son Christopher C. Aceto of Portland; three brothers, John Aceto Jr. of Cape Elizabeth, Ralph Aceto of South Portland, Albert Aceto of Tequesta, Fla., and his sister Lena Walsh of Portland.
Family and Friends are invited to a time of visitation from 9 - 10 a.m. Wednesday November 9, 2011 at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland. Prayers will follow at 10:15a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated 11a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church 72 Federal St. Portland.
Interment will be in New Calvary Cemetery South Portland.
