HOLLIS -- John Albert Christensen Jr., 61, of Nathan Smith Road, Hollis, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Portland, the son of John Albert and Honor (Lykke) Christensen. He graduated from North Yarmouth Academy in 1968 and from Concordia College in Moorehead, Minn., in 1973.
John was a salesman for many years, most recently representing Dubois Furniture. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook where he taught Sunday School and was on the church council.
John enjoyed reading, gardening, and building furniture; he was always eager to learn new things. He most loved spending time with his family and doing things for other people. John enjoyed bird watching and had a love for animals, especially his dog Remy.
He was predeceased by his father. John is survived by his mother, Honor Sanville of Westbrook; his loving wife of 38 years, Mary (Mjolsness) Christensen of Hollis; sons, Joel Christensen and his wife CPT Shahnaaz Nistar of Round Rock, Texas, and Josh Christensen of Hollis, a daughter, Amy and her husband CPT Donald Manchester III of Grand Junction, Colo.; a sister, Linda Cain of Knoxville, Tenn.; and a granddaughter, Aalia Daneen Christensen.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Main Street, Westbrook. Arrangements are by Blais & Hay Funeral Home, Westbrook.
