MABANK, Texas -- Phyllis Putney Williams, 85, passed away in Mabank, Texas on Jan. 17, 2010.
Born Aug. 9, 1924, in Lynn, Mass., to Elbert and Evelyn Putney, Phyllis was a 1942 graduate of Portland High School. She earned a degree in Accounting from Northeastern Business College, and attended Zion Bible Institute in Providence, R.I.
In the 1950s Phyllis served as Pastor of the 'Church in the Wildwood.' Services were held at the Universalist Meeting House-1839 Historical Society in New Gloucester. During WWII, Phyllis served in the Women's Army Corps, stationed at Westpoint.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Keith B. Williams; her parents; and her brother, Vernon Putney. She is survived by her daughter, Janet R. (Damon) Sheppard; grandsons Michael and Cody; brother Elbert Putney, sisters Gertrude Cole and Ruth Beecher; numerous nieces and nephews; loving family and friends.
Services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 19, in Grand Prairie, Texas, officiated by the Rev. J. Keith Cupples.
