Roland Deschenes, 92 BRUNSWICK -- Roland Deschenes, 92, of Brunswick, died peacefully Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Winship Green Nursing Center, with his wife by his side after over seven years of illness. He was born in Brunswick on Feb. 25, 1917, the son of Joseph and Marie Jeanne Bois Deschenes. He attended St. John's School and was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church. As a young man he worked at Allard's Store and Bisson's Dairy Farm in Topsham. He later worked for Cabot/Verney Mills and during part of World War II he worked as a driller in the South Portland Shipyard. He also worked at Farnsworth Mills in Lisbon Center, Taylor Shoe Shops in Freeport and Augusta, and Auerbach Shoe in Brunswick. He retired from Keena Corp. in Brunswick in 1981. In 1939 he married Simonne Caron. She passed on in 1956, and in 1958 he married Rosalie Lachance. He enjoyed watching football games locally and on TV, gardening, taking country walks, auto rides, and day trips with Rosalie. He was predeceased by two sisters, Matilda St. Laurent and Cecile Rossignol, two brothers, Raymond Deschenes and Gerard Deschenes; and a special brother- in-law, Rayomnd Lavoie. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosalie Deschenes; a special sister-in-law, Rolande Lavoie; local nieces Cecilia Lachance and Valentine Welling; a special great- nephew Geoffrey (Geoff) Lachance and his wife Lynne; and many other nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Demers-Desmond Funeral Home, 34 Cushing St., Brunswick. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
