Diane M. Edgecomb Obituary
Diane M. Edgecomb, 51
NORTH BERWICK - Diane M. Edgecomb, 51, of Dyer St., passed away on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at home after a period of failing health. She was born in Portland on June 2, 1965, a daughter of John and Esther Irish Edgecomb. She was a graduate of Bonny Eagle High School in 1983. She went on to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Bates College in 1987, then attended and received her J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law. She recently began pursuing a focus on mediation and completed a Master in Restorative Practices from the International Institute of Restorative Practices Graduate School, in Bethlehem, Pa.
She has practiced law for more than 20 years in the fields of child protection, probate and general family law as a guardian ad litem and parents' attorney, largely in her own practice in Gorham and Biddeford.. She also practiced as a certified mediator, registered with the Maine Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Service (CADRES) and Youth Alternatives Ingraham (YAI). Diane was trained in transformative and facilitative models, nonviolent communication, restorative judicial practices and trauma response.
Diane pursued a profession where she could help people and make a difference in their lives. Not only did she do this professionally, but all that knew her felt her positive spirit and endless optimism despite hardships. Diane was very proud of her work as a board member of the Seeds of Hope Community Center in Biddeford where she volunteered tirelessly. Diane adored her dogs, her family and friends; the special family she created for herself. She loved baking and candy making. She always found great joy in creating jewelry and visual art such as drawing, painting and collage. Most recently she has been taking a creative writing class, focused on writing a children's book and her own autobiography. Diane's life touched so many people, in so many varying ways; she will be missed dearly.
She was predeceased by her father, John J. Edgecomb, her stepfather, William A. Tierney; and her brother Dana Edgecomb. Surviving are her mother, Esther Tierney of Gorham; three brothers, Wayne Edgecomb and wife Bonnie of Florida, Neil Edgecomb and wife Gail of West Baldwin and Paul Edgecomb and wife Svetlana Zak of New York, stepbrother, Kevin Tierney and wife Anjali of Arizona, her long time friend Michael Meserve and his partner John Heath of Portsmouth, NH; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday, Sept. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish.
In light of Diane's wishes, an additional celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m. at the Seeds of Hope Community Center, 35 South St., Biddeford. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.wnyfuneralhome.com
