Frances Mary
McDermott, 94
BRISTOL, Vt. -- Frances Mary McDermott, 94, of Bristol, Vt., peacefully passed from this world and joined her Lord on Sunday morning, July 27, 2014, at 7:20 a.m., at the Mid-Coast Hospital in Brunswick.
Frances was born in Bristol, Vt., on July 30, 1919, to Ira and Dora Ward White, the youngest of seven children.
Frances often spoke of her early years growing up in Bristol as Frances White, and how she loved this small town that is neatly tucked away within the beautiful green mountains of Vermont. She was a dignified woman who had a love for life and lived it with strength, humor, kindness and generosity and did so out of a deep and practical Christian faith.
She then spent over 25 years working and living in San Francisco with her husband Joseph McDermott, returning home to Bristol in 1980 where she remained until March of 2013. Because of failing health issues, she decided to move to Maine with her daughter Bonnie to continue her journey. She is now returning back to Bristol, Vt., to her final resting place, to the place that she has always called her home.
She was a wonderful and faithful Christian woman and longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Bristol, and a life time member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, where she spent countless volunteer hours working on charitable fundraising events that assisted our nations' veterans.
Frances enjoyed get-togethers with family and friends and will always be remembered as a warm and caring person and friend to anyone that met her. Her door was always open! She felt that most situations in life could be discussed and possibly resolved over a cup of tea and a few cookies.
She will always be remembered for her quick wit, but most importantly for always putting others before herself. A kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to all who met her. She will be dearly missed by everyone.
Frances was predeceased by her first husband Clarence Eubar; second husband, Joseph McDermott; a son, Robert Eubar; and grandson, Brian Milliron Eubar. Surviving are her daughter, Bonnie Dumont and husband Roger of Harpswell; a granddaughter, Norma Jean Little and husband Rick of Illinois, a grandson, Shawn Eubar of Rhode Island, granddaughter Melissa Eubar of Maryland; and several great- grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to the staff at Hawthorne House in Freeport, and Mid-Coast Hospital in Brunswick.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol, Vt. A Christian funeral service will be held on Monday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Bristol, followed by a burial service at the Greenwood Cemetery.
