Roland M. Tapley Jr.
BUXTON -- Roland M. Tapley Jr., passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Scarborough. He was born on Jan. 12, 1931, in Paterson, N.J., the son of Roland M. Sr. and Bertha (Lesh) Tapley. Roland grew up in Buxton and was a graduate of Samuel D. Hanson High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950-1953.
Roland, who was a teamster of Local Union 340, worked as a delivery truck driver for Bell Linen, who over the years was bought out by Associated Textile Rental Services, where he retired after 30 years.
He enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing with his dad at their camp on Little Sebago, and attending some baseball games at Fenway Park with him. After retirement, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with close friends from Rhode Island, as well as playing cribbage and poker with friends, and senior bowling at the Big 20 in Scarborough.
In addition to his parents, Roland was predeceased by his sister, Elsie Parkman in 2013. He is survived by his nieces, Susan Meserve of South Portland and Lisa Parkman and her significant other Bill of Buxton.
Visiting hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, at the Dolby & Dorr Funeral Chapel, 76 State St., Gorham, where a funeral will be celebrated at 1 p.m. the same day. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery, Church Hill Road, Buxton. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com.
