Obituary Condolences

Roland R.J.
Jacques, 83
SPRINGVALE -- Roland R.J. Jacques, 83, of Springvale, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, following a long battle with heart disease. He was born in Sanford on Feb. 2, 1931, to Ferdinand and Regina (St. Laurent) Jacques.
A graduate of St. Ignatius High School, he was awarded a full athletic scholarship to St. Michael's College for football and baseball. Roland would leave college in 1951 choosing instead to serve his country in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
For the next 20 years, Roland traveled the world with his wife, Irene. His grasp of foreign language and his gregarious personality led to many high profile assignments in other countries.
Upon retirement from the military, he pursued many other interests, including completing his college degree. He enjoyed success in insurance and real estate owning many multifamily properties in Sanford and Biddeford. Active in the church, Roland served in various ministries at Notre Dame in Springvale. His love for God was expressed in diligent study of the Bible and sharing his faith.
For all of his accomplishments, Roland is best known for his love for others as husband, father, brother, nephew and uncle. His kindness and generosity know no bounds. His friendly, fun and welcoming spirit entertained friends and strangers alike. He had an infectious smile that rarely left his face. His ability to liven any situation will be sorely missed.
Roland is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irene (Walsh) Jacques; children, Brett Jacques, Catherine Taft and her husband Peter, Jeffrey Jacques and his wife, Tammy; grandchildren, Chace and Corbin Jacques, Aaron, Daniel, Rachel and John Taft, Ian, Emily, Owen and Ashley Jacques; and sisters, Theresa Field and Yolande Willey.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 14, at 10 a.m., at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Stanley Road in Springvale. Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com.
