Richard L. Brady, 83
PORTLAND -- Richard L. Brady, 83, of South Portland, passed away on his birthday, July 7, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on July 7, 1931, in South Portland, the son of Robert S. and Lucy Brady. He was the seventh child of nine children.
He was married for 59 years to the love of his life, Emily Duarte Brady until her death in 2011. He gave tender and devoted care to her for the last 10 years of her life. Their marriage was a love story that all who knew them would remember. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His family looked forward to getting together at the yearly Christmas Eve party at his home.
Richard was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Lucy Faulk and Florence Heatly, brothers, Harrison, Robert, William, Paul and Laurence Brady; and by his beloved son-in-law, Harold Devou. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy and her husband Burt Edwards, Donna Devou, and sons, Richard Jr. and wife Carrie Brady, Robert Brady, James Brady and John and wife Carrie Brady. He will also be missed by his sister, Betty DeVries of Emmas, Pa.; his six children; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Maine, the staff at Maine Medical Center and Maine Center for Cancer Medicine. We would like to give a special thank you to Seaside Rehabilitation & Health Care Center for the care and kindness to him and his very large family. The family would also like to thank his granddaughter Kristen, for using her experience to help guide her family through this difficult time.
A graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, July 10, at 1 p.m., at New Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland. Arrangements made by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland.
