Richard D. White, 71
GORHAM -- Richard D. White, 71, of Gorham, died at his home on Thursday, March 13, 2014. He was born and raised in Andover, the son of Ismay Roberts and Ernest White Sr. He graduated from Gorham High School. In 1960 he met the love of his life Lillian and they were married in 1963.
Richard served in the Army and was proud of his time served. Following his active duty, he worked for RTS in Scarborough for 40 years. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the town of Standish. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, hunting, skiing, camping, and dancing. Richard enjoyed working with his hands and tinkering with cars. He also looked forward to his summer vacation camping and taking his nieces and nephews roller skating.
Mr. White did not need a lot of luxury in his life. Little things made him smile. He loved having cookouts with his family and playing horse shoes. He always said his most precious things in his life were his wife, Lillian, his son, Shawn and his granddaughter, Brittany.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lillian; son Shawn of Portland; and granddaughter Brittany of Buxton. Rich is also survived by three sisters, Edith Palmer, Barbara Warner, and Viola Hodgton, one brother, Dwight Hutchins; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Spring burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Gorham. For online condolences, please visit our website at
