Warren Howard Delaware, 88
SCARBOROUGH -- Warren Howard Delaware, 88, of Scarborough, died on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at his residence.
Warren was born in Scarborough, the son of Melville and Harriet 'Knight' Delaware where he was educated and a graduate of Scarborough High School, Class of 1942.
He was drafted in to the United States Army Air Corp. in 1943. He was in the 8th armored division attached to the 9th and 3rd Army which fought in the European Theater. The third Army was commanded by General Patton, Warren saw him several times throughout the war. Warren's unit saw action in France, Belgium, Holland and finally Germany itself. He served as a Combat Infantry Rifleman thorough out the war. He was honorably discharged March 20, 1946.
Warren married Anna Wright on May 23, 1946.
'I have worked as farmhand, woodsman, truck driver, soldier, and carpenter, painter, now retired.'
He was a member of the Scarborough American Legion, VFW, Scarborough Methodist Church, Scarborough Historical Society, Charter/Life Member of the Maine Sportsman's Alliance, NRA, Fish and Game and Scarborough Gun Club.
'Not money rich, have best family possible, all are the best and of value to their Town, State and Country.'
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Anna Delaware of Scarborough; two children, Roger M. Delaware and wife Rebecca of Scarborough, Joyce E. and husband Charles Alden of Scarborough; and four grandchildren, Bethany and her husband Peter Bosse of Freeport, Dwight and his wife Tonja Delaware of Limington, Edward and his wife Lynne Alden of Scarborough and Robert Alden and companion Leslie Bensen of Scarborough.
A visiting hour will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Rte One, Scarborough, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the spring.
