Virginia M. Nelson

1924 - 2016 Obituary Condolences
Virginia M. Nelson, 91
BIDDEFORD - Virginia M. Nelson, 91, of Fortunes Rocks, Biddeford, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco. Ginny was born in Biddeford on Aug. 9, 1924, the daughter of Stephen and Mary (Murphy) White. She was a graduate of Biddeford High School and Portland Junior College, and received a bachelor's degree from St. Francis College/University of New England.
Earlier, Virginia was a secretary at JFK School in Biddeford, secretary of Superintendant of Schools, and worked for the Biddeford City Clerk's Office. She retired from St. Francis College/University of New England after 30 years as Assistant Registrar.
Ginny excelled at her studies, her work, and most importantly, caring for her family. She was close to many students at St. Francis, helping with life's problems, cooking for them, typing papers, and coordinating for the basketball team. Ginny lived simply and enjoyed family and friends, watching Celtics games, activities at church, knitting, and visiting New York City (Manhattan). In later life, her family and friends were her joy.
She was predeceased by her former husband Maurice R. Nelson; one son, Eric R. Nelson; her brother Stephen F. White Jr.; and her sister Elaine L. White.
She is survived by one son, Bruce S. Nelson; and two daughters, Susan N. Schuyler and her husband Bruce of Biddeford, and Debra L. Nelson and her husband Brian Nadeau of Saco; one granddaughter, Lauren Schuyler Giddings and her husband Harvey; two great-grandchildren, Harvey and Maisie; her sister-in-law Margaret White; her niece Linda White; and five nephews, Daniel and Stephen White, John Michael, and Jeffrey and Rob Fink.
Ginny's family would like to thank the staff at Seal Rock Healthcare and Hospice of Southern Maine for their care, compassion and kindness.
Visiting hours will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James Street, Saco. A Funeral Mass will be held this summer at St. Brendan's Chapel in Biddeford Pool. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Biddeford. To view Virginia's memorial page or leave an online condolence, please visit:
