TAMWORTH, N.H. -- Vernon W. Dyer, 87, of Great Hill Rd., Tamworth died Thursday evening Nov. 1, 2007, at Sunbridge Care and Rehab of North Conway, N.H.
Born in Portland, Sept. 6, 1920, the son of the late Nelson and Mabelle (Johnson) Dyer, he grew up in Portland and moved to North Conway 47 years ago. In Maine he graduated from Kents Hill Prep School in Kents Hill and ran Nelson and Nelson Dry Cleaning in South Portland.
During WWII he served his country with the United States Army Air Force. In 1957 and 1958 he worked as a photographer and clerk on Mount Washington. He worked in the dry cleaning business in the Conway area and for 25 years as a sander at Franklin Furniture and Yield House.
Mr. Dyer enjoyed photography, computers, bottle hunting and mineral collecting.
Predeceased by his wife Clara Abbie (DellaTorre) Dyer in 2003; he leaves a son, Charles Dyer of Danbury, N.H.; two daughters, Charlotte Dyer of Tamworth, N.H., Silvia Poules of Springfield, Mass.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at Ordination Rock Cemetery in Tamworth. The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of West Ossipee, N.H., is in charge of the arrangements.
